Once a mascot becomes a senior, they are “outed” at the last home football game of the season. We are very interested in seeing if you have a personality that would be good for being a mascot and if you just have a general confidence being around people,” Ezer said. But, it’s a combination of learning what skills you have versus what skills you have the potential to develop. “We try to keep a little bit of a secret. All of this takes place in a boot camp style setting. Training for the part includes learning the Deacon walk, specific mannerisms, popular dance moves and more. It is unknown as to how many people take on the role of the mascot, as well as how they trade off the role depending on the event. To keep up the magic of the Demon Deacon, much of the information on the process behind the character is classified. Unfortunately, the Deacon couldn’t find high heels big enough for his feet, but I still got to walk a mile with the guys and that was a really great experience.” Domestic violence awareness is something that is pretty close to my heart, so I love being able to get involved in that. I did the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. So, I just love being with the kids and that opportunity to put a smile on their face,” Ezer said. “I love to see them light up when they see the Deacon and come up and give the Deacon a big hug or they bring me pictures of the Deacon that they’ve drawn.

According to Ezer, one of the best parts about being the Deacon is not only hyping up the crowd at football games, but also getting to spend time with kids and participating in charity work. It has become a large part of her identity, as she is also a mascot with the Winston-Salem DASH. Since her middle school years, Ezer has been working as a mascot both in and out of the school setting. Beginning during the second week of her freshman year, Ezer has been working the crowds and walking the walk as one of the mascots at everything from football and basketball games to volunteer and charity events.Īs one of the most elusive roles a student can have on campus, Ezer gave as much insight as she could about what it truly means to be the Demon Deacon.

The 340-acre campus is located in Winston-Salem, adjacent to 150-acre Reynolda Gardens, and has many modified Georgian buildings.Senior Brittany Ezer has discreetly lived her four years at Wake Forest with a pretty big secret: she is one of the many faces behind the Demon Deacon mascot. The plan's many other features include the introduction of first-year seminars (many of which give freshman their first opportunities to use their new laptop computers), the hiring of additional faculty and new scholarships. All freshmen receive IBM ThinkPads when they arrive on campus, and students have quick and easy access to the university's sophisticated computer network from practically anywhere on campus, including classrooms and residence halls. The plan has brought greater use of computer technology to the university.

In 1996, Wake Forest launched a comprehensive plan to enhance undergraduate education. Other factors, such as individualized instruction and Atlantic Coast Conference sports, also distinguish Wake Forest. Students choose Wake Forest over other similar schools for many reasons, including its small classes, the breadth and availability of its study abroad programs, the strength of its academic programs (particularly accounting and other preprofessional programs) and the commitment to community service, reflected in its 700-member Volunteer Service Corps. Though small, it has the resources of a much larger institution. Wake Forest University, founded in 1834, is a private liberal arts university.
